Designed for Your Home
Custom Built-Ins
& Cabinetry
Purposeful storage. Enduring craftsmanship.
Your home doesn’t always fit neatly into an off-the-shelf solution. Hardwood Alchemy creates custom bookcases, cabinetry, desks, benches, and media consoles designed around your room, your belongings, and the way you live.
Every project begins with an in-home consultation and ends with a handcrafted installation made specifically for its surroundings—right down to the wood, finish, hardware, and final fit.
Consultation
We’ll meet in your home to see the space, discuss what isn’t currently working, and learn more about your functional needs and personal style. We’re also happy to collaborate with your interior designer, with project communication coordinated through them when preferred.
Design & Material Selection
We’ll develop a custom design and help you select the wood, finish, hardware, and details that best suit your home and budget.
Proposal & Scheduling
You’ll receive a detailed proposal outlining the project scope and investment. Once the proposal is signed and the deposit is received, your project will be reserved on our build schedule.
Build & Finish
Chris personally selects the lumber and plywood for your project before each piece is handcrafted and finished in the Hardwood Alchemy shop.
Delivery & Installation
Your completed piece will be delivered and carefully installed in your home, with every detail fitted to the space.

Our Process
Investment
Built for Your Space. Made to Last.
Custom built-in projects begin at $3,600, with most six-foot installations falling between $3,900 and $12,600, depending on the project type and level of detail.
Have something larger or more bespoke in mind? We’ll develop a tailored scope and proposal during the consultation process.
What May Affect the Final Price:
- Size and layout: Larger pieces, corner installations, and more complex site conditions
- Materials and finishes: Premium woods such as white oak or walnut, custom stains, and specialty finishes
- Design details: Doors, drawer count, shelving, interior org (e.g., trays), decorative trim, lighting, and glass
- Additional elements: Countertops, bench cushions, and delivery or installation outside the local service area
Each starting price reflects a straightforward installation measuring up to six feet wide along one straight wall. It includes your choice of our standard woods, one paint color or clear finish, quality hardware, and delivery and installation.

Do you take on freestanding furniture or smaller projects?
Our primary focus is custom built-ins and architectural millwork that become part of the home. We occasionally accept freestanding furniture or smaller projects when they align with our expertise, aesthetic, and current availability. The best way to find out is to share the details through our inquiry form.
How much should I expect to invest?
Because every project is custom, the investment depends on its size, materials, complexity, and installation requirements. Many of our full-scale built-in and architectural millwork projects fall between $10,000 and $25,000. Once we understand the scope of your project, we’ll provide a clear proposal tailored to it.
FAQ
How long does a custom project take?
Timelines vary depending on the scope, design complexity, materials, and our current project schedule. Because we take on a limited number of clients at a time, each project receives our full attention rather than being rushed through production. We’ll discuss timing early and keep you informed throughout the process.
Is every project completely custom?
Yes. Every piece is designed around your space, how you live, and the architectural character of your home. From the overall proportions to the wood, finish, hardware, and smallest functional details, each decision is made specifically for your project.
Are you insured?
Yes. Hardwood Alchemy is fully insured and bonded. We provide certificates of insurance for co-op, condo and building management requirements, and coordinate directly with your building, designer or general contractor.
